3D visualisation and Visibility Analysis

2010 - 3D visualisation and Visibility Analysis

Growth Area Authority

In 2010, Grace GIS supported the Growth Areas Authority (GAA) by delivering advanced 3D visualisation and visibility analysis to assist with strategic urban planning across Melbourne’s expanding growth corridors. Using high-resolution elevation models, aerial imagery, and 3D GIS techniques, we created realistic terrain and built-form visualisations that helped planners assess landscape character, development impacts, and long-range views.

The visibility analysis identified sightlines, view corridors, and visually sensitive areas, allowing GAA to evaluate how proposed developments might influence the surrounding environment and community viewpoints. These spatial insights played an important role in guiding land-use planning, urban design considerations, and decision-making across rapidly developing areas.

Rendered using LiDAR terrain surfaces and 3D GIS visualisation tools.
