Determining Catchments

Grace GIS delivered a detailed catchment delineation project in 2022, breaking down Hobsons Bay’s drainage landscape into precise hydrological units. By applying terrain modelling, sink filling, flow direction, and watershed extraction techniques to LiDAR elevation data, we produced accurate catchment boundaries for both major and minor drainage systems.

These delineations allow the Council to better understand how water moves through urban and peri-urban areas, improving modelling accuracy and supporting more informed decision-making. The final products are used for development assessment, stormwater upgrade planning, flood risk analysis, and long-term water management strategies across the municipality.
