Development of Nested Subcatchments for Creek Sites
2016 - Development of Nested Subcatchments for Creek Sites in Blacktown City
Blacktown City Council

In 2016, Grace GIS delivered detailed hydrological and catchment modelling for Blacktown City Council to support improved flood mitigation and urban water management. Using high-resolution LiDAR elevation data and council drainage information, we developed nested subcatchments for key creek sites across the municipality. This work included generating an engineered Digital Elevation Model (DEM) that accurately represented both natural landforms and modified drainage features.
The resulting subcatchments provided a precise understanding of how water moves through Blacktown’s rapidly urbanising landscape, identifying runoff pathways, contributing areas, and localised flood risks. These hydrologically robust datasets enhanced the Council’s ability to assess stormwater behaviour, plan drainage upgrades, and implement evidence-based urban planning strategies that improve resilience and community safety.
Delineated using engineered DEMs built from LiDAR and drainage network data.
