Empowering LGA with Flow Modelling

2022 - Empowering LGA with Flow Modelling

Hobsons Bay City Council

In 2022, Grace GIS completed advanced hydrological flow modelling to strengthen Hobsons Bay City Council’s understanding of local drainage dynamics. Using LiDAR-derived elevation models, spatial hydrology tools, and flow accumulation algorithms, we mapped the movement of stormwater across the municipality under various rainfall scenarios.

The analysis identified natural flow paths, concentrated runoff zones, ponding areas, and potential points of hydraulic stress. These insights help the Council assess the capacity of existing drainage networks, prioritise upgrades, and plan infrastructure that better manages future rainfall events. The resulting datasets play a crucial role in local flood mitigation, asset management, and climate adaptation planning.

Assessed using LiDAR-conditioned DEMs and hydrological flow algorithms.
