High-Resolution Land Use/Land Cover Mapping

2009 - High-Resolution Land Use/Land Cover Mapping for the City of Melbourne Area

City of Melbourne

In 2009, Grace GIS delivered a high-resolution Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) dataset for the City of Melbourne, providing an accurate spatial baseline for understanding the municipality’s urban form and environmental conditions. Using detailed aerial imagery and precise classification techniques, we mapped key land-cover categories including impervious surfaces, vegetation, tree canopy, bare earth, and water bodies.

The project produced reliable datasets and thematic maps that have supported a wide range of urban planning and environmental management activities. From tracking changes in green space to supporting climate adaptation strategies and informing infrastructure decisions, this LULC mapping became a critical foundation for evidence-based policy and long-term sustainability planning.

Generated through detailed classification of high-resolution aerial imagery.
