Hydrological and Climate Data Analysis
2018 - The Hughenden Irrigation Project Corporation (HIPCo) - Flinders River Irrigation Project (Stage 2)
The Hughenden Irrigation Project Corporation (HIPCo)

In 2018, Grace GIS undertook a comprehensive hydrological and climate data analysis to support the Hughenden Irrigation Project Corporation (HIPCo) as part of the Flinders River Irrigation Project (Stage 2). This work examined over 100 years of rainfall records across three key catchments, identifying long-term patterns, extreme rainfall events, and seasonal variability critical to water resource planning.
Using the SWAT hydrological model, we simulated monthly inflows by integrating SILO rainfall data with FGARA soil datasets, producing robust inflow estimates tailored to the region’s environmental conditions. These outputs offered a detailed understanding of water availability, catchment behaviour, and climatic influences; providing HIPCo with essential scientific evidence for assessing irrigation potential, infrastructure requirements, and long-term water security.
Modelled using SWAT hydrology integrated with long-term SILO and FGARA datasets.
