Solar Access Assessment for Residential Properties
2016 - Solar Access Assessment for Residential Properties in Adelaide
Adelaide City Council

In 2016, Grace GIS conducted a comprehensive Solar Access Assessment for 290 residential properties across Adelaide to support informed solar PV installation and promote sustainable energy adoption. Using detailed geospatial analysis, we evaluated each property’s suitability for solar panel placement by assessing roof geometry, potential shading from nearby buildings and vegetation, and seasonal sun-angle variations.
The assessment also considered broader urban factors such as planned growth, redevelopment impacts, and heritage constraints to determine long-term solar viability. The resulting datasets and spatial insights equipped homeowners, planners, and energy advisors with clear, evidence-based information to guide solar system design, installation decisions, and renewable energy planning.
This project played a meaningful role in advancing Adelaide’s sustainability goals by helping residents and stakeholders make confident, data-driven choices in transitioning to cleaner energy solutions.
Assessed using roof geometry modelling, shading analysis, and sun-angle simulation
