Tree Canopy Mapping
2024 - Tree Canopy Mapping
Hobsons Bay City Council

In 2024, Grace GIS delivered a high-precision tree canopy mapping project for Hobsons Bay City Council, providing an updated, spatially accurate representation of the municipality’s vegetation cover. Using advanced geospatial techniques, LiDAR data, and high-resolution aerial imagery, we delineated canopy extents as polygons, enabling more meaningful analysis than traditional point-based datasets.
The final outputs included canopy density mapping, suburb-level summaries, and change indicators that help the Council evaluate the effectiveness of current greening initiatives. These datasets support urban heat mitigation strategies, biodiversity planning, and evidence-based policymaking, giving Hobsons Bay a reliable scientific foundation for long-term climate resilience and environmental management.
Mapped using LiDAR canopy extraction and high-resolution spatial analysis.
